I disagree, I don't think the amount of nuclear weapons mattered a bit. Both sides had enough to destroy themselves and the world. The Kennedy's saved us from the generals and because they prevented that crazy Curtis LeMay from bombing the Russian's missiles in Cuba.

That was solely done by the Kennedys. Just watch the movie 13 days.

Regardless, it was a very close call.

What worries me the most, is that I have read accounts by statisticians that say if we do not get rid of all nuclear weapons we will use them sooner than later.

I know that statisticians can predict things like that with great accuracy. I wish everybody understood that.

We must get rid of the nuclear weapons. We cannot continue this living on the brink indefinitely without a mistake being made. That is impossible and I don't understand why the great minds of the world don't understand that?

And then on top of that, every four years, the Republicans give us a candidate that can't be trusted with nuclear weapons e.g. Sarah Palin (if McCain had died) and I feel like we missed a bullet with Bush and Cheney.

We didn't escape the Cuban missile crisis because of the Kennedys.

We escaped it because we had MUCH better technology than the Russians in ALL facets of war at that time.
