Some info about the MSFT - TCI deal : Subj: Giga Something or other By: tandbfeldman Date: Jan 2 1998 3:33 P.M PST Reply To: Msg. 321 by Freakyourmomma The guy's name is Rob Enderle, and he's an analyst with Giga Information Group. As per the San Jose Mercury News he says: "The investment would be intended to speed up the development of TV set-top boxes that link TVs to the Internet". He further states, "TCI would use the investment to upgrade its cable-TV network for new-generation set-top boxes, which will deliver services ranging from web-linked television programs to electronic mail to home shopping". "Microsoft plans to sell software including the Windows CE operating system, for use in the set-top boxes, which will start shipping in limited quantities in the first half of this year". The article goes further to state that Microsoft spokesman would not comment on the statements made by Enderle . Why no mention of cable modems?
