10/28/16 Contest update
Checking the performance of Contest portfolios for the week all I can think of to say is oy vey.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -29.61% YTD (vs. down -24.67% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -23.00% YTD (vs. down -20.89% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -19.21% YTD (vs. down -14.99% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 3.65% YTD (vs. up 4.99% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 18.84% YTD, was not immune to the biotech thrashing but remained in the Contest lead. STEVEL’s portfolio, up 3.60% YTD, also lost ground but managed to move up to second place and GHMM’s portfolio, up 1.87% YTD, slipped into third place.
At Friday’s close, there were still only 5 of the 58 Contest portfolios in the green, with 19 portfolios beating the NBI and 16 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -21.27% and a median YTD loss of -30.29%, with a mere 46 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: VTAE buyout by Allergan for $21. I used 10/28/16 closing prices for reallocation. VTAE only held in RKRW portfolio.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
