He's also financially supported Democrats, which probably also doesn't mean a lot esp. in the context of considering him to be part of or a follower of the GOP establishment He's in a business where he tries to get advantage through political favors. Not that this fact is a point in his favor, but its an explanation different then your theory.

For all his faults (and they are plenty) being a GOP establishment person isn't one of them. (But I'd probably support a GOP establishment candidate above him anyway so even if he was I wouldn't consider it a huge knock against him, I just think its a very inaccurate charge).
