I'm rooting for Musk here. I just wanted more information, I'm a contractor and a former roofer. There are a lot of ways to make these tiles work on areas where they need to be cut:

Matching non-solar tiles that are made to be cut, probably the best solution. Precut tiles... that would require premade roof sizes, and jack locations. Harder but not impossible for a high end builder. (You'll notice there are no roof jacks on the roof in the video.)

The connectors to me shouldn't be a problem, and I imagine the battery system that goes with the tiles has all the required inverters etc.

I think this system will make a pretty good go of it... depending on how good they are at the details of distribution and the above questions. I hope they hired some roofers as consultants, and tested some out in the real world.

Here in San Diego I think I'll be seeing these roofs as soon as they are available on new homes in pricey areas like Rancho Sante Fe and Del Mar. People who build in those communities aren't going to care a hell of a lot about price as long as its not extreme. They will love the idea of having a Tesla in the garage, with a Tesla solar charger. I see plenty of Teslas on the road down here.
