I'm expecting long term interest rates to stay down for a long time.

Interest rate cycles are slow moving. Looking back at the previous low point, long rates hit a low about 1933 and didn't rise off the floor in until 1950-51

We could have another decade of low long rates.

Given that, I think REITs may be just fine for at least a few more years.

But of course, there are short term cycles, and all rates tend to spike a little when the FED raises. So picking a buy point can be important.

The FED can set short rates, but can only influence long rates.

Given the level of government debt world wide, no country, including the US can "stand" long rates to go up much.

And the central banks will likely retain their easy money, QE policies for at least a few more years.

Of course, I could be all wrong.

It's happened before. :-)
