NW, you would have a C: drive( new hard drive you buy) and then your old dirve would become the D: dirve on the same pc.
you could access just like any other drive.
BUt, it's one wondows system that accesses both drives.
not 2 windows systems.
take your pc to a dealer, they know what to do.
it wouldn't hurt to see what they charge for upgraded processer.
but, stop at that.

I'm not talking theory here like jim does..
I've done the above twice with great success.
I've also had no trouble with compression.
be sure and defrag after you do everything
