I disagree on your theory of decency. Decency does not make people weak. Stupidity makes people weak. The best generals are the smartest generals and the smartest generals have the ability to look at the big picture and be decent. Without decency there is no perspective.

Chamberlain was stupid, he did not read the situation correctly. It had nothing to do with decency at all.

The foreign relations we had with Russia had nothing to do being decent. And handicapping foreign relations of the past is with the benefit of 20/20 hind sight.

This is how I rate all the wars of the last century. We should have gone into Germany in the early 30s to stop Hitler, but the Republican isolationists in congress prevented it. But what is new, they are usually wrong. Truman should have allowed MacArthur to free all of Korea.

We should not have gone into Vietnam and all. I protested that war in the streets. But I approve of going into the Balkans. We were right to attack Iraq when it invaded Kuwait, but should have taken out Saddam at that time, but not have gone into Iraq the second time. I approve of going into Libya to prevent that massacre Qaddafi was promising.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu - what a smart general does.
“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.” ...“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” ...“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

They were just too worried about DECENCY though. They ended up being decent to the Russians and the Poles, Czechs and East Germans PAID for it for 60 Years.

TOO MUCH decency can get a LOT of people killed or enslaved...
