NEWS: Wind just reported another steller quarter, $.19 earnings beating the street estimate of $.18, as I guessed would happen (see above forecast). WIND turned in a nice year gaining 37.1% on revenues and 100% on earnings. Vastly more important, WIND brought out a number of new, sensational products and booked some impressive design wins. Just announced:

1. Heidelberger, the giant German printing press manufacturer. (Recall I predicted this since I believe they were the party responsible for getting Siemens to pay WIND to port generic VxWorks to the C166 Chip family.)
2. Bay Networks in an agreement similar to earlier ones with NET and Newbridge Networks. Incidentally, today in the news, a deal between Newbridge Networks and Siemens was announced regarding Newbridge's ATM switches to be sold by Siemens. Guess what's inside those switches.
3. VwWorks must be fast because Intel will be sticking it in Pentium processors to build the world fastest computer for the Department of Energy - capable of 1 trillion operations per second.
4. A repeat of the I2O announcement with Intel, which is very big.
5. HP’s cable model did not even rate a mention in the earnings report.

I find it fascinating that embedded systems, which will eventually lead to completely transparent computing, is finding much to do inside the very computers it will soon obsolete. The new supercomputer is one example; the I2O interface is an even better one.

Where is WIND going from here? At miminum it must double every two years for many years.
