They did a follow up with the subjects- and I believe most of them, via survey, thought the work was important- or at least those were the "facts" in the movie. He was obviously motivated to study this because of the Nazis- and all genocides make it pretty clear that with a bit of peer pressure,many humans will happily torture and kill other humans if they're "ordered" to do so (and sometimes, even if they're not).
