The lesson was Walter Mondale. I don't think some Bernie supporters understand the anti-left bias and boogeymen at the American core outside our tent. Pockets of educated people outside the left would vote for Bernie. But the mainstream... would be turned away with irrational fears, worse than Clinton. The RNC loves to tie candidates to what they define as socialism (socialism = theft and lost freedom) and the associated dog whistles. View Saul Allinsky references that still get traction on the right. We live in a bubble. I have found many of my Bernie-not-Clinton friends were extremely opposed to Obama too. I am troubled by this, but I know they are honest idealists and I am a liberal pragmatist now. They like to insult me with terms like "neo-liberal." I forgive them.
