I joined a running group this past weekend and noted that several members were quite reliant on their Fitbits. I don't think the Apple Watch fills that gap. My concern is whether one of the smartphone apps which is device-independent should gain traction it would benefit from significantly greater network effects on social media. The GG authors would call this a royalty game and FIT could easily lose out in the long run or see their margins whittled down, as is always the ultimate case in hardware without network control. But with an EV/ Rev ~0.5 the GPRO scenario is essentially priced in, which is not what I see in the marketplace. There will yet be periods of hope for growth or maybe a GOOGL acquisition. Still, I detest buying into a death slide and will happily wait a few months before buying. I'd rather miss 10 big opportunities than make 1 big mistake.
