I'm really interested in loading another OS on the Chromebook.

Some versions of Linux are a possibility and an XP shell can be created also.

The reason for this are a few lightweight graphical programs I want to install.

Have no idea which direction or how this will work out, but the Chromebook was cheap enough to experiment with. :)
