The (D)'s got too cuddly with the elites, and got Trumped. They need to get back with the FDR voters, the workin' stiffs. That's who Trump played to, and won. Sure, some racism, misogyny and xenophobia was involved, but they didn't elect him. Hurtin' workin' stiffs did.
Trump has the ability to simply lie. And even to contradict his own lies. Many people don't care about policies; they take the benefits of the administrative state for granted and chafe at the restrictions. Trump got elected under false pretenses, pretending that he can do things that he can't do or, if he can, they will frequently make things worse for many people.
But who cares as long as the Clintons go to jail, Obamacare is repealed, we'll kick out foreigners who don't belong here anyway, and everyone is free to discriminate against whoever they want for any reason they want.
The Rs will undoubtedly see these next four years as their opportunity to privatize SS and get rid of Medicare by "giving" people some amount of money which they can buy insurance with. As if that money will actually be even close to enough for most people, especially for people over 65. And privatize national parks (or send them back to the states, which will amount to the same thing in many places) and sell off interstate highways, turning them into toll roads. This administration could turn into a billionaire's dream come true. |
