The fascinating thing about this problem is that no one will be able to predict what exactly is going to happen! Unlike naturally re-occuring rare events (like sun spots or comet arrivals), I truly this to be one of the few one-time occurances in planetary history. It has never happened before and it never will happen again in a world that is both still emerging technologically yet already heavily dependant on this technology (Year 10000 won't have the same potential impact, everyone will be using VB by then :-)
