The problem is that Trump has no experience in governing and no experience in policy. He will be surrounded by conservative Republican experts and guided by them. See Reagan, who had a lot more experience than Trump and also started out as a Democrat. I suspect few, if any, of Trump's "progressive" ideas will survive to become laws. On the bright side, I suspect by midterm Trump's policies will create conditions that will heavily favor a Democratic takeover of Congress. A probable recession after the midterms will pave the way for a complete Democratic takeover in 2020. However, we will be stuck with a conservative Supreme Court for the foreseeable future.
