Very interesting article but there is only one thing that they missed.
The consumers always gets the short end of the stick. How come the computer can't be a real consumer product? Why is that the computer consumer is forced to install software, hardware and on top of that be a system administrator when all they want to do is run applications?
How can these problems be solved?
The only solution that I can come up with is the NC.
Of course the technology isn't up to speed and MS is not on board to promote the solution but is trying to defend it's OS with its monopoly which will definitly slow down the solution.
So the way I see it MS is not interested in a solution but just wants to protect its OS. Hopefully the consumers will wake up and figure it out one day.
One of the more inportant events that happened in 1997 was that the ISO accepted Java and will make it a open standard so now any developer has a fair shot at developing the best code possible. Funny thing is that the US voted against ISO approval.
