That was a great post.

So the $64 question is, can the mind learn to think above tribal loyalties?

I think we see we humans are capable of developing happy societies.

But people have to learn how to do that. It is not instinctual.

Good point. You should also consider the fact that the countries you listed as highly successful are Monocultural; something not so progressive. They are not particularly threatened at the moment by geopolitics. It makes sense when they are mainly one unified race and world view that the people view themselves as a unified populace willing to make every sacrifice for the whole, the tribe. A unified America has, at least over the past half century, eluded the society of USA. We are a diverse and lately polarized country who value unification in principle but fail to achieve it in practice, while the individual is valued over the whole of governmental interests, at least traditionally.

I believe the countries you listed as successful will have to deal with changing demographics and world influences more and more as a problem, as the globe shrinks. I believe the areas you listed as not doing well are struggling with it now.
