11/11/16 Contest update
I’m still recovering from the awful shock Trump will actually be the next president of the U.S.A. Admittedly, the gains in my biotech stocks have taken a little sting out of my dismay. But, sadly, for the polar bears there’s no such consolation.
Meanwhile, the Trump biotech rally Yugely benefited Contest portfolios. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -21.96% YTD (vs. down -35.01% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -14.92% YTD (vs. down -25.59% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -5.69% YTD (vs. down -21.83% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 4.59% YTD (vs. up .78% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio, up 31.21% YTD, vaulted into first place. DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 27.29% YTD, fell to second place and STEVEL’s portfolio, up 18.03% YTD, dropped to third place.
At Friday’s close, 8 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 21 portfolios beating the NBI and just 9 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -14.55% and a median YTD loss of -26.85%, with 59 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: I missed closing of the TBRA buyout by Allergan last week but have now done the reallocation. Since the TBRA buyout involved a CVR, which doesn’t seem to be publically traded, I used the 10/31/16 final TBRA trading day close of $42.09 to determine the buyout proceeds. And I used the 11/4/16 closing prices to calculate the proceeds reallocation to the remaining portfolio stocks. TBRA was held in two portfolios, STEVEL & USUBAN.
