The edition of Risk to which I refer (Put out by Parker Brothers) has armies in the form of little cubes, each cube equals one army. Ten armies is in the form of 3/8 to 1/2 inch long triangles. This version of the edition originally, if I remember correctly, came out around 1966 or 67. This is the edition I used to have until 1982. :(

Since then, they have continuously modified the game pieces. The most recent version, which I now have, has all the individual 1's, 5's, and 10's in the form of the figures on each card. And they've changed the size and shapes of the countries for each continent. Also, they've added logistical specific cards to the game. I just don't like it. The old way, I think, is still the funest ("funest" - is that a word?).

Unlike you, I love to play games, well, board games anyway. Some card games, too. Although having ones spouse constantly kicking the crap out of you at Canasta (sp?) isn't really a whole lot of fun.

One of my estranged friends loves to play Risk as much as I. Actually, the fellow with whom I used to work and went to SF with in '80 or '8l also loved to play the game, but it is a bit difficult to play the game with someone who has passed away. The estranged friend and I would play Risk for money making it that much more competitive and interesting. Risk is just one of those games I've just never grown out of liking. Besides, what else is there to do, talk to one's spouse? <VBG> I'm just kidding.
