The rumor maybe true.. I have been trying to get information from UCSD supercomputer center to find out for sure if they have already bought the gigamux.

It is interesting that it is the San DIego division that is the focus of the rumor

Although I have taken classes at the supercomputer center last quarter
I'm not sure if I will be able to confirm this.

This came out on December 10

SDSC to Collaborate with CRI on High-speed
Networking Research

SDSC is starting a collaboration with CRI to find high-speed networking applications that require bandwidths on the order
of 1 GB/sec. Discussions have been held with the UCSD Medical school, and Dr. Ramesh Jain's visualization laboratory. A
dominant need is the ability to rapidly access multi-gigabyte data sets. The current bandwidth capability of the SDSC
archival storage system is only 1-2 MB/sec. This bandwidth is too small to support UCSD projects with data sets that are
only 50 GB in size. Researchers would like to be able to retrieve a 50 GB data set in one minute, necessitating a GB/s communication network.
