Alex, I agree catastrophic coverage should be less than $600 for someone your age and in good health. But there might be an accident. I broke my wrist a few years ago when two running dogs knocked me down and the repair was billed at near $50k. After insurance paid less than $10k I was stuck only with the bill for pain killers. Without insurance - who knows?

My medicare part B is less than $300 - including supplemental insurance.
The supplemental premium depends on age, but other risk is not part of it.
