By at least the 8th century BCE the Greeks borrowed the Phoenician alphabet and adapted it to their own language, creating in the process the first "true" alphabet, in which vowels were accorded equal status with consonants.

What I don't really understand is why you constantly feel a need to challenge intellectual authority and science? You wouldn't challenge science if doctors told you, you had cancer. You would take them seriously. Maybe get another opinion, but you would take them seriously.

You should take James Burke seriously, he is a world authority and has been studying scientific history for 50 years and Robert Ornstein is one of the world's foremost authorities on the structure of the brain. He teaches at Stanford and UC Medical school and authored a dozen books.

And they were collaborating on that book, which means they were checking each other's information.

Those two have great reputations to protect. But you did not hesitate to jump right in and challenge what they were saying. Why did you do that? What you posted postdates the discussions by the ancient Greeks of republics.

But nevertheless, why would you not just listen to these people and use that as part of your knowledge base? Maybe they are wrong about some things, but they are highly respected and probably are correct about most things.

I'll go back to one of my original posts. Why do you think that only 6% of scientists are Republican? And 51% are liberal and 80% lean Democratic. That is a question you should look at long and hard and ponder.

And when I posted it, your first reaction was to challenge it? It was a highly respected PEW poll. And honest polls conducted by professionals are very useful and usually correct. Polling is a science when done right and PEW usually does them correctly/

>>>History is very clear,...>>>

Who's history?

Recorded history is fairly recent. To assume people could not communicate well or that they only had a numerical awareness which went up to two, only because nothing has been recorded is rather naïve if you ask me. I'm going to counter your assertion that people were dumb with a speculation that wisdom and democratic awareness has been with us since the beginning.

We are only now discovering that India had wide spread democratic groups and I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest merchants managing caravans understood quantity and possessed a richness of language.
