"Hamilton" & Pence: I ignored this but just read what the Hamilton actor said when he addressed Pence from the stage. Sorry, what he said wasn't so bad. While it expressed worries about the new administration, it was polite and positive. This shouldn't be a "thing."
.....
Brandon Dixon asked Pence to just hear their message and discouraged people from booing ( as some people did earlier).
He sincerely welcomed Pence but told him people are “alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us.”
“We truly hope,” Dixon said, “that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”
Here's the whole thing:
At the conclusion of the show, cast members addressed Pence’s appearance — as a group locked in hand-to-hand — behind Brandon Victor Dixon who delivered the following message:
“Vice-president elect Mike Pence, we welcome you and truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton American Musical,” Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, the nation’s third vice president, said. “We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our alienable rights, sir. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us,” Dixon added.

Seriously, that was polite and welcoming. While it expressed "alarm and anxiety" which hopefully is baseless, upholding American values and working on behalf of all of us is what we all should want. |
