When I was young an extramarital affair, a divorce or even your religion could be disqualifying for a Pres. candidate. Kennedy was the first Catholic President, even though the Irish were immigrating en masse for over a century. My great grandmother remembered when Mormons had to disavow polygamy to get Utah admitted as a State. The morals and mores of society change, not always for the best.
