The Dems failed to follow some of these Rules while Trump adopted some.

The Dems failed to follow Rules #7, 11 & 12.
Trump used their own Rules #5, 6 & 13 against them.

AFA Rule#7, the Dem's old playbook of every opponent is
racist, sexist, bigoted, etc no longer works.
Rule #11 was violated by Dems, because their violent protests showed them to be mindless goons.
Rule #12 was missed by Dems because they had no alternative
to Obama's failed policies, just more of the same.

Contrast Trump calling all of his opponents pet names like 'Little Marco'
or 'Crooked Hilliary' following Rule #5. It was particularly just
to use this Dem tactic against them. The Dems had no answer
to such attacks because RINOs never fought back in kind.

Trump took advantage of Rule #6 by adopting spontaneous replies
from his constituents like "Lock Her Up!"

Trump used Rule #13 on Hilliary, pointing out her low energy
campaign, her nefarious graft in office, and calling her 'Crooked'
at every opportunity.

Dems just had NO Answer when their own tactics were used against them.
The GOP must learn that the Dems don't campaign nicely,
rather they viciously attack their opponents and only a response
equally powerful can give Dems pause and inspire the GOP.
