Of course he did. In real estate the con man always makes the most money and usually wins. People are gullible and will believe anything, especially if you stroke their ego. By and large, people don't know when con men are lying to them.

But if you are a smooth con man, you have a million ways of convincing your client to do what you think is best, but what you think is best generally means how you make the most money.

A con man will tell you that the house is just fine, he sells it and gets a commission.

The honest man tells you that the house is filled with dry rot and don't buy it and doesn't get the commission.

A con man will tell you that you can get $300,000 for your house and then when it doesn't sell talk you into bringing down the house to what it's actually worth.

An honest man will tell you what the house is actually worth in the first place, which means you will list with the con man who gave you the higher number. It is called buying a listing.

A con man will talk you into listing your property too low, so that he can get a quick commission.

An honest man will figure out the range and list the property at the top of the range and work their way down as the market dictates. Which means they don't sell their listings as quickly and have to do a lot more work.
