I can remember when hi-dens floppies were several dollars each, and most people did not give them away without thinking a minute. The price drop was fast once they became common. The same would happen with Zip, but it is a catch 22 situation.

If you take apart a Zip disk or read the Patent covering the zip disk design you will see that the ultimate high-volume cost for a Zip disk can be very low. I think that the price will come down rather quickly when real volume kicks in. Interesting enough, Pre-formatted floppies are also pretty expensive. I have to wonder if unformatted zip are possible, although it takes many minutes to do a long format on a zip drive.
