It's very unlikely that the volatility of Greg's bonds is less than that of US Treasuries. For that to happen, the credit risk of AMD would have had to negatively correlate with US interest rates over the given time period. Normally, corporate bonds are more volatile than govy's because in addition to interest rate risk, they carry company specific risk. Finally, corporates are obviously less liquid than govy's and this may also result in increased volatility.

I'd recommend the Brealey and Myers textbook as a good basic intro to finance if you're interested.
