tom

your name pops up sometimes where I sit on the side. Far as I know you'haven't posted the specs on your current computer. So lemme tell ya this.

In 1992 i think it was i bought a 486-SX 33 VLB (Zenon). Pretty hot home machine at the time. Summer of 96 i decided it was too stale and i needed new machine. So i started looking and then i said to myself "Its a pity to waste that great old machine, before i buy a new one i'm gonna do whatever cheap upgrades i can to keep it usable."

So i added new motherboard with a Cy586 120 and 16Meg more memory (all my old memory moved over) and a SEG 2.1 meg HD and a good PCI video card. When i got it up i was amazed to find that i needed a new computer like a hole in the head.

Still using the same case i bought in '92. in it is a very capable and cheap computer. i will have to buy a new one next time. but i bought "2+ years" before a new computer for about $600.
Please try that same strategy first. If the upgrades work either you will be ok for a while or you'll end up with two nice machines for different purposes.
