I know that is the perception that many on the right have. But it is interesting that you don't seem to recognize the importance of ethics, democracy and the rule of law. There has been capitalism and free trade all throughout history. What was absent was knowledge of ethics, democracy and the rule of law. Our great country was really the first major country to enact democracy. The freedom you have today is the direct result of democracy, not capitalism. England had trade and capitalism long before it had democracy and remained a monarchy. The thing that held the East back, was not a lack of capitalism, it was a lack of understanding of democracy and the rule of law. The invention by the human species of ethics democracy and the rule of law was the direct outgrowth of the written language and books. It was not the outgrowth of capitalism. <<>> Do you think people were living better in the middle ages? People live better today SOLELY as a result of free market capitalism. No other reason. Not government bureaucrats. Not taking money away for taxes.
