I'm glad you're learning. Corporates and govy's have similar volatility because the major component of risk in corporates is interest rate risk. Maybe you've noticed that US Treasuries are less volatile than your Intel stock. By your own logic ("most bond rates (corp and govt) have roughly the same volatility") the same follows for Nus' AMD corporates. Since volatility measures risk, (believe it or not!) Greg's bond investment is more conservative (less risky) than your Intel investment.

Again, if you don't believe me, ask your broker.
