Michael, I feel you are correct. I am a EE that got stuck in software. (well firmware at first.. the gray area). Then on into application development and now I manage a group of 15 C++ programmers developing 1,000,000 lines of code for an application for the government. We write pretty efficient code.. We quit byte herding and CPU cycle squashing a couple of years ago, however as engineers, we still have our standards and cant stand to use sprintf or strcpy in our code. (Just our principles you know). Anyway, I have enough Ideas in my head right now to smoke 8 PIIs and bring them to there knees begging for mercy. This is with one multi-threaded application doing real-time data collection and on the fly track correlation, simultaneously rendering multiple 2d/3d views and running a few other radar simulations that I cant mention.
Side Note: And Yes, For NT bashers, this all works under NT. But we support all OS/Hardware combinations. By the way, the absolute best is Intel/Linux. (no suprise there)
One of our hardware gurus finally ask me one day about what my requirements for Memory, Cpu, and Disk Space were. He said, "When will you be happy".
My answer is very simple and I repeat it frequently..
"When I have TOO MUCH"
When that requirement is met, I will be happy.
Good Luck To Everyone Neece |
