Excellent post and it points out the huge difference between the American system and the collectivism of the Progressive Left. "The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights." You are correct that it is NOT a democracy. The founders viewed a democracy as mob rule and they deplored it. They had no interest in forming a Democracy. To accuse them of that would have been considered an insult.
If you listen to koan you will note he is all about collectivism and gives no importance to the recognition of individual rights. He is a Marxist, Progressive Socialist. He is an enemy of America and its form of government which places such importance on the sovereignty of the individual.
What is the purpose of Government? Its first purpose is to secure and protect the rights of the individual.
Declaration of Independence.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

This is the gulf between the Left and the Right in this country.
