There is actually a very practical answer to that question. I'm sure everyone values their eyesight. We get glasses if we can't see clearly.

A leading edge concept, that almost no one thinks about is a thing they call in science knowledge directed perception. What that means is that you cannot see what you do not understand.

Exactly what Plato was explaining in that animated clip I posted. So a person should have interest in learning if for no other reason to improve their vision, their mind's eye vision, knowing what IDEAS actually look like, better, increasing your mind's clarity can only be done by learning stuff.

Seems to me that most of the people on SI are caught up in fighting. If they would take that same energy and try to learn things their eyesight would improve dramatically and a whole new life would open up to them.

That is true of all of us and that is effectively what Buddhism teaches. I've always thought that Eastern religions being based on the path to enlightenment is what gives Asian's such a big head start academically.

They understand the concept of education.

In the West, Adam was punished for taking an apple from the tree of Knowledge!

Our religion simply gives us a list of rules to obey and does not even want us to learn different stuff.

Life is so absurd, so why is it worth it?
