Rather than just accept convention as a given, I try to put myself into some alternative way of looking at things or even an opposition and ask myself, "hey, what about this way of perceiving the issue?" In this way, I can challenge my own presumptions and sometimes find value in the other way of looking at things.

When we bond too tightly to our way, we tend to overlook or even disallow things of merit. To grow from this, it is required to first dismantle excessive loyalty to ideas allowing ourselves to perceive truths not previously available from the given sources. In this case, I haven't lost the point, I've only added a "yaah but" to the idea.
