>>Instead of asking what you think are rhetorical questions which prove your point (they do not, as you will soon discover), let me suggest doing a little homework before you stick your foot in it any deeper. In fact you can append, delete or replace files provided the disk storage hasn't been exhausted. It's all done in software and WORM drives were doing it more than a decade ago.<<

OK. In this detail I am wrong, since you can, with the proper software, alter the disk directory so that only the updated file appears.
Nonetheless, the original file will remain, and the space it uses is lost. The larger the file in question, the more of a nuisance this becomes.
Rewritable media do not behave that way. Even on a lowly floppy disk I can replace an old version of a file with a new one, and will not lose space in doing so.
In the meantime, what difference do the particulars of CD-R software make to Iomega's ability to generate revenue? CD-R drives have been available at reasonable prices throughout the past year, yet many more Zip drives were sold than in 1996.

As you will have seen from my previous post, I have asked about that. In fact, I was creating those questions, apparently, just as you were writing your post.
