Re: Office Noise Floor; IBM ViaVoice Gold

Hello Fernando, thanks for your reply. The example of trading rooms was one of the first that came to mind regarding an office environment. Clearly, the computers are going to have a harder time of it, not to the people.

Some of you may be interested in my evaluation of IBM's ViaVoice Gold software, which I've bought yesterday and have been using since then. You may be amused to know that this reply was composed using ViaVoice. I experienced a little bit of trouble setting up the microphone as apparently my sound card is not sufficiently amplifying the microphone input signal.

I believe the ability of appliances to recognize and interpret speech commands, will depend on the design and mass manufacture of a specialized chip (ASICs or PLDs) with these capabilities embedded, which will bring down the cost dramatically.
