Donald Trump’s selection as Time magazine's "Person of the Year" marked the second time in less than a month that he beat Hillary Clinton.

The Democratic nominee for president came in second place on the magazine's list, behind the president-elect.

“Whether you admire her or despise her, she has come closer to winning the presidency than any other woman in American history — twice. While Clinton’s campaign did not become a triumphant milestone in the fight for women’s equality, it is a stepping stone further than any to come before it. Which ensures that even if the 2016 election wasn’t ultimately about gender, her legacy surely will be,” Time writes in its article on Clinton.

Clinton was followed by “the hackers,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, “the CRISPR Pioneers” (the scientists who created a genetic engineering technique), and Beyonce.

Trump’s upset win over Clinton last month left many people in shock. While Clinton leads in the popular vote, Trump defeated her in the Electoral College to win the presidency.
