Again, you're missing the point.
The early SI team was very responsive to user input, and appreciated any insights on how the site should look and react to user requests. It was a comfortable, cooperative environment. I even spent some of my own time and expertise helping them overcome a few technical obstacles. I recommended the site to friends and former co-workers. I, and many others, were happy users.
Then, management changed hands (multiple times). That "team spirit" slowly faded away. Now, it's more like co-existence than co-operative.
Dmitry and his many "features" that did very little to improve the SI-user experience turned off a lot of people who were paying attention to "progress".
Performance problems ticked off a BUNCH of people who don't even care how the system looks or acts, so long as they can access info.
Those performance problems REALLY ticked me off because I know how a *real* techie would approach and solve the problems. To top it off, he rejected offers of assistance. Essentially his attitude was ... "you don't like the performance, so what? I will spend time on new features". Features that nobody asked for. And, in many cases, the users hated those features after they were implemented.
That attitude provoked the more vocal users to stand up and be heard. That's why this thread exists.
And, now here we are, with far less SI readership than they had in the past. What a pity, considering this site was one of the premiere investment forums, with experts in multiple areas and markets providing their thoughts and suggestions on how to win the investing game.
It was Dmitry's Ivory Tower attitude toward users that torqued my jaws. Add that to the performance issues that still plague the site. Not good.
The implementation problems were Dmitry's. Letting Dmitry get away with it was management's failure. I sometimes wondered whether Dmitry was part of management's extended family.
The site's performance has been a problem for a long time. There is NO EXCUSE for a system to act like it does in this day and age. If they're going to run SI as a business, then they should fix the issues ... beginning with Dmitry and his attitude towards users.
Sure is a pretty day.
