Many years ago in my youth, I fired a 380 pistol out in the woods and it had a tendency to jam between shots. It gave me a lifelong aversion to semi-automatic anything. Except for 22's. Had good experience with them and if you ever had a jam, you're only shooting at cans or a groundhog in the garden or a possum in the garbage. So it doesn't matter. If he gets away, you'll get another chance at him in a few days. I never shot a groundhog with anything bigger than a 22LR. Cheap guns and cheap ammo compared to anything else.
