What you are missing is if the treatment is an approved process in Canada but is not available or is in an overload And is critical in timeline. Some procedures and second opinions are sought elsewhere. The second is Canadians in general are not on the breadline. Though there are more super wealthy people in the US. The average net worth of Canadian households is higher. When I say average that means there are many much greater accumulated assets

The middle class as a whole are quite comfortable. Average net worth being in the 5 to $600,000 range.
There for as I stated before many times people if it interferes with their planned lifestyle plans simply book their appointments when they are convenient and pay for them out of pocket.

A neighbor down the road from England had read some fantastic cure advertising, by a cancer clinic in the Southern US. When he was told he had terminal cancer he chose to go there for immediate treatment. Out of pocket cost is unimportant if it is weighed against life. For him it was futile. They took his money did the best they could. But he died anyway.

Just because Canada has a medical program. It doesn't restrict any one from going elsewhere on their own if they choose to do so.
Before you knock the Canadian Medical system you should really investigate it your self. Talk to Canadians themselves. How do they see their health program as compared to the US. Not just read what is flogged and paid for by the Hospitals and Insurance companies for profit which have a lot of politicians in their pockets.
Canadians would be horrified if a politician suggested changing to the American system. Perhaps its the thing most dear to the people. The politician would be gone from office forever on the next election.

Canada has a small population of 35 million. That is less than California. And the county is larger than the USA by land mass. The US with it's population could easily have great affordable healthcare. But they would have to Nationalize all hospitals and a government ran single payer insurance program. So as they are operated on a cost basis rather than for profits for share holders.

Why on earth should investors make profits on citizens who are unfortunate to be inflicted with disease or be injured. When there is a far better way.
