The idea that the EPA would be a good steward of the environment, protecting it from the voracious appetites of the capitalists and the rapacious tendency of individuals and corporations to pollute when untethered to some authority, is actually noble. It even captures the religious ideal which suggests humans should have a care taking dominion over the earth and its creatures.

It would be wonderful if that was all there is to it. Defilement occurs when skilled politicians begin to line the pockets of their cronies and subvert, impede, or stymie good intention by politicizing scientific efforts. When attempts to explore all thrusts and avenues to greater knowledge are blocked or undermined, we can no longer have confidence in the process or trust the outcomes.

In other words, and this is ironic, how do we keep a mammoth government agency like the EPA from becoming corrupted and therefore polluted? Or do you think it not possible.
