In the short term I completely agree with your statement:

But, if you are IOMG long you can see how building brand awareness with educators/students, and penetrating a ripe education market can't hurt. It is very difficult from a brand building standpoint to penetrate the K-12 market without blowing a wad on national brand building campaigns that would sap a huge amount out of IOMG's marketing communications budget. To use a PR ploy like this is very cost effective, creates goodwill with numerous targets, puts IOMG on the radar screen with PC OEMs and other market OEMs, and the co-partnering with big name players (Kodak and Newsweek) only lends more credibility to Iomega Corporation as a whole. So short term your spot on, but long term you have to look at the cumulative effect that builds towards the standard.
