This issue drives me crazy. Conservatives worrying about spending a dollar on any meaningful idea have no problem locking up individuals for victimless crimes. How they square that thinking befuddles me. We have a higher percentage of people in prison than any other country and yet it doesn't seem to do anything for the crime rate. Add to that that rich white kids don't go to prison for smoking pot but black kids get locked up for years and the craziness of the US policy becomes more bizarre.
