Arista’s Andy Bechtolsheim Talks Optics With William Blair

William Blair networking equipment analyst Dimitry Netis today writes in a note to clients that he had dinner with Arista Networks ( ANET) co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim, a renowned Silicon Valley engineer and serial entrepreneur, and got some perspective on the vibrant demand for fiber optics.

Mr. Bechtolsheim is very bullish on overall growth in 100G, noting current industry forecasts severely underestimate the number of optical transceiver units demanded by the market (by at least a factor of 10). He believes 100G has legs for many years to come in data center interconnect and inside the data center (at a rack/switch level) with 400G beginning to ramp up in late 2018/2019 (400G will see spotlight at OFC 2017 in March).
