Sure. Let's say, you want to italicize a phrase, start the italicization by preceding the phrase with the "special" characters <, i, and >. And when you want to end it, type the "special" characters, <, /, i, and > (without any spaces or commas) Like so :
< i >italicized phrase< / i>
For bold, it is the same way, except you use the letter "b" instead of "i". Like so :
< b >bold stuff< / b >
(Please note that I have used spaces between the characters in order to illustrate. When you actually use it, you should type the special characters without any spaces between them)
