ATTENTION BIOTECHIES: Judging by the messages I’ve received, there seems to enough interest in a 2017 Biotech Charity Contest. I’ll set up the 2017 Board in the next few days. Thanks, Bulba.

12/16/16 Contest update
The Fed raised the federal funds rate by a quarter percent this week. If only the jump in my blood pressure was as limited each time Trump picks a new cabinet member.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -25.44% YTD (vs. down -24.54% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -19.65% YTD (vs. down -20.39% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -11.95% YTD (vs. down -11.86% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 8.58% YTD (vs. up 8.73% YTD a week ago).
We have a new leader! Boosted by AKAO’s big jump, STEVEL’s portfolio, up 34.53% YTD is now in first place. JBOG’s portfolio, up 26.64% YTD, dropped to second place and DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 22.01% YTD, fell to third place.
At Friday’s close, 6 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 21 portfolios beating the NBI and 15 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -18.02% and a median YTD loss of -30.67%, with 55 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) APPY (Venaxis) symbol & name change to BIOP (Biopix).
2) MDGN (Medgenics) symbol & name change to GNMX (Aevi Genomic).
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a relaxing pre-electoral college vote weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
