Brian....since you added my name in your post I felt I had to respond.

You said..."AMAT has had the history of a company with little deviation in their eps"...In Feb 1996, AMAT made $1.02 EPS.....that then went down to the .44c range....that is over a 50% drop.

AMAT still has not made $1.02 EPS since then (.51c after split). And the stock is still higher than it was in Feb 1996....and here we are in Jan 1998 with lots of folks predicting a couple of slow quarters coming up. Question is....has everyone already discounted the upcoming slowdown??

You said..."With mgt. giving no earnings warning as of yet, I hope that history is again repeated."...If history is repeated...we should expect the April and July quarters to come in around .25c EPS...
