Same here. Forever, I thought it was an artifact of a system where counting votes on election day was impractical. Only later on did I become curious enough to read about it and understand: it is about more than counting the number of heads in the state. As it should be. I don't think it will be changed, certainly not in my lifetime. You can't get enough of the states to agree about anything to ratify it. Time and again, we can see the absolute brilliance of the Framers in protecting the whole from a majority who can be swayed from time to time by emotion and whim. Designing a barrier to the "tyranny of the majority" is an absolutely unreal accomplishment in retrospect. How did these people have the awareness to fight what must have been a very strong compulsion?
